About Cassandra Smith-Fields


​Cassandra Smith-Fields has worked in Transplant for over 30 years with positions in Transplant Leadership at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, The Nebraska Medical Center, Children’s Memorial Hospital, and the University of Chicago. Cassandra has extensive experience in transplant administration for both solid organ and bone marrow transplant, new program development, marketing, managed care contracting and regulatory compliance. While her experience includes both adult and pediatric programs, she has extensive background in pediatrics.


Cassandra served as the Chair of the OPTN/UNOS Transplant Administrator Committee, and has served on numerous OPTN/UNOS committees including the Living Donor Committee and Electronic Organ Placement Workgroup. She has also served on the Transplant Administrators Special Interest Group of the ASBMT. Cassandra helped to launch the American Society of Transplant—Special Interest Group for Transplant Administrators.


She has partnered with over a dozen programs in the role of on-site quality consultant to ensure their successful completion of System Improvement Agreements (SIA) with Medicare.


Cassandra received her master’s degree in Business Administration and Nursing from Loyola University Chicago, and her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
